Birth Registration

To exercise Ecuadorian nationality, children born abroad must be registered in the Consulate of their jurisdiction. 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Original international apostilled birth certificate.
  • Passports or ID cards of the parents.
  • Copy of the marriage certificate, if applies.
  • It is not necessary for the minor to be present, the presence of one of the parents is enough in case if they are married. If parents are not married, both must assist.
  • If inscription is made before the 18th birthday, the inscription has an administrative cost of € 5 euros. Afterwards, the cost is € 17 euros. Cash payment is not accepted. It is only possible to pay by a bank transfer (PIN) at the Consulate offices.

Extract of Civil Status

It is an Ecuadorian Civil Registry document that among other details, it discloses the applicant's marital status. T

This document is valid in the Netherlands with its proper translation into Dutch and Apostille from Ecuador. See "Legalization and Apostille Information".

A digital copy of the applicant's ID is needed for the online application.

It is a document of the Civil Registry that among other details, it serves as a proof of the Ecuadorian nationality.

Celebration and Registration of Marriage

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Original passports or identity cards of both parties.
  • Original passports of two witnesses (per party) who understand the Spanish language (no matter their nationality).
  • Birth certificate in Spanish of the parties.
  • Extract of Civil Status in Spanish. If the contracting party is not Ecuadorian, all documents must be apostilled.
  • Cash payment is not accepted. It is only possible to pay by a bank transfer at the Consulate offices. Cost € 60 euros.  

If applies:

  • one of the spouses-to-be is divorced, they must also submit the original of the annulled marriage certificate.
  • one of the spouses-to-be has underage children, a guardian should be appointed in the Court of Children and Adolescents in Ecuador.
  • if the woman to be married has been divorced within one year of remarriage, as registered in the Civil Registry of Ecuador, she must provide proof that she is not pregnant, except if, according to the judgment, the divorce was granted because of abandonment.
